Jiva Animation, an Indonesian anime studio located in Malang City, East Java, recently held an anime workshop at SMK RUS Kudus, a vocational high school with animation department in Kudus Regency, Central Java.
The anime workshop was conducted by Aswin Nur Cahya, CEO of Jiva Animation and a professional anime compositor who has been working in Japanese animation studios since 2020. According to Aswin, animation compositing is fairly unknown to Indonesian people, even though compositing plays a crucial role in determining the visual quality of an animation production.
Compositing in anime is the process of combining different visual elements from separate sources into one image or video, in a way that creates the illusion that all those elements are parts of the same scene. Basically, apart from composing the given character and background assets, the compositor is also in charge of adding effects, color grading, and correcting animation or color errors if needed. With this Anime Workshop, Aswin hopes to share knowledge and experience about the anime production process, especially the compositing part, while introducing Jiva Animation as an Indonesian anime studio.
